Rescued

It’s hard to relate to the concept of being rescued. I have never felt that my life was in great danger. There was one time on an international trip that I should have died for various reasons, but I never felt in danger during that time. I was rescued and my life was spared. I’ve never been in war where bullets were screaming over my head. I’ve never been in a fire where the flames were about to consume me before a fireman stormed through the door. I’ve never been in a car accident where I narrowly escaped with my life because the angels were around me.

It’s easy to forget what spiritual darkness God has spared me from. I’ve been rescued from something far more dangerous than a tropical jungle, fighting of war, and a head on collision.

For he has rescued us from the dominion of darkness and brought us into the kingdom of the Son he loves, in whom we have redemption, the forgiveness of sins. Colossians 1:13-14

Spiritual darkness is something I’ve not experienced. God has spared me that. But it is nothing I have done. It is entirely by the grace of God. He redeemed me in Christ. He bought me through baptism when I was an infant, before I could understand the darkness of unbelief. What a blessing and a gift that God has given me a life of being rescued. It’s hard to fathom how awesome the gift really is because I’ve hardly been without it. But wow, what a gift. Thank you, Jesus.
